ADVENTURE TALES : Michaël Ortner

27/12/2016

Michaël Ortner & 15 other adventure-hunters headed to the land of fire & ice

Once a 4x4 buff, always a 4x4 buff.  Michaël Ortner loves to travel the world… the Pyrenees, the Alps, Corsica, Scotland, Poland. He never misses a chance to soak up a real change of scenery. And he likes to do it in good company.

His loyal companions looking for off-road thrills and spills are people he meets on his website. He actually invites anyone who is willing to set off with him to go discover new lands and some dazzling natural beauty.

His latest adventure has taken him to the inhospitable terrains of Iceland. There were 15 of them who set off in 9 vehicles, each one as tough as they come: a Discovery 1, a Discovery 2, a Jeep Wrangler, a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, a Mercedes G 500, a Defender 90 and a Defender 110.

If they successfully negotiated the 1,550 miles and more across neighboring Greenland it was thanks to the material and financial backing of BFGoodrich® and the Good Project program. But when hitting the formidable Icelandic trails of sand, ice and stone, they were on their own.

And yes…even a seasoned off-road warrior is never immune from the occasional mishap. Like one of the cars losing a wheel while fording a river.

"When the driver radioed that we had to stop to recover it, I thought he was kidding.  I soon realized the hole we were in. We had to look for the nuts in the icy water then we used one of my winches as a jack and pushed with shovels to get the car back onto all 4 wheels."

Despite that incident, the 15 adventure-hunters made the most of their expedition. With stunning landscapes all around… mountains, hills, glaciers. So amazing in fact that Michaël Ortner and the others can hardly find the words to describe their magic moments.

Do you have a driver's dream like Michaël Ortner?  Try to make it come true in the months ahead by filing your project application on http://www.bfgoodrich.de/bfgoodproject/subscribe
