TransAnatolia rally started on August 19, 2017. Selen Muratoglu and Koray, her partner and a professional driver, left Izmir to get to grips with the rugged expanses of Turkey. Eight days and 2,800 kilometers later, our two off-road adventurers reached Samsun.

The long stages of this grueling rally at the heart of Turkey were a tough ordeal for Selen, Koray and their vehicle.

This off-road race crosses rocky and dusty landscapes, hits steep trails and reaches altitudes of up to 3,200 meters. All the more so in that this particularly challenging rally was the couple's first off-road racing experience. "With the benefit of hindsight, I can now understand better why everyone was surprised to see us having our first off-road experience in a challenging race like this."

The first few miles set the tone for what was to prove a particularly uncompromising off-road adventure: “the first special lap that almost makes one say 'how we will get through the next 7 days'?” But the team's performances quickly picked up, moving on from one stage to the next until they reached Antalya. Fitting BFGoodrich® tires proved to be a particularly smart and effective option in terms of wear, traction and overall performance across reputedly tough terrain.

From plains to mountains… finding the rhythm

On August 21 they reached the Taurus mountains, 50 km of trail up to an altitude of 3,200 m. The road was seriously dangerous with rocks and trails strewn with blocks of stone and exposed to the risk of avalanches. Yet the technical preparation the couple had worked with helped them overcome these obstacles in fine style. The stage's finishing line was in a village lined with children, a rewarding end to the day.

On the 5th day it was back to narrow, steep trails and ravines, all at 3,200 m above sea level and a pretty intense experience. Selen and Koray were on their own on an off-road trail where all they could count on was themselves and the reliability of their equipment.

A phenomenal adventure

It was only at the end of the day that technicians from Toyota Hilux and BFGoodrich®, loyal traveling companions for this TransAnatolia, were able to greet the team. On the agenda, repair work on vehicles after a few tough days in the mountains, and a well-deserved rest for Selen and Koray.

After wrapping up this TransAnatolia rally in Turkey, discovering hostile terrain and some wonderful people, they looked back at what was a phenomenal adventure. For their first off-road race, Selen and Koray were up to the challenge. "We are filled with pride to have completed the TransAnatolia Rally Raid. Because being a racing driver takes serious dedication". They went on to say how keen they were to repeat the experience next year. "BFGoodrich® Good Project, so good to have you!"
