Light2Learn: Morocco Another very…Good Project

This year, Bengt Alverborg will have a great birthday present on October 1st. The following day, as part of the Light2Learn School Run Project, he will be leaving for Morocco to put up solar panels in the remote schools of the Atlas Mountains. BFGoodrich® is supporting him in this adventure.

Combining the thrill of driving with the serenity of nature
As a Swede, for Bengt Alverborg, sailing would be a much more convenient way of enjoying wild empty spaces. But, since he was a toddler, it is cars that excite him. With a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bengt is also passionate by music, cooking and travelling. When an expat in Abu Dhabi in 1999 his passion for driving met that of the desert. With his Toyota Land Cruiser 100, he seriously got into off-roading. “Off road is the perfect mix of all the things I love: driving, enjoying the peace and quiet of empty spaces, discovering new cultures and people”. Back in Sweden he pursued his hobby. But this year he wanted more. And he is going to get it with the Light2Learn Morocco School Run Project and BFGoodrich®. Off-roading for one whole month in the Atlas Mountainswhile contributing to the educational development of local people. Speak about the utmost perfect mix!

Driving with a purpose
The aim of this project? Providing solar electric lighting and power solutions for 9 remote schools in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco, serving hundreds of children. With his Land Cruiser 100 equipped with an awesome roof tent, Bengt and his beloved traveling partner Eveli Tarro will cross Europe in 4x4 from October 2nd to November 1st. The trip down is well planned, with ferries from Sweden to Poland and after from Italy to Morocco. They will be transporting the material to the isolated schools and setting it up. The Atlas, as well known for its stupendous scenery as for its' challenging surfaces will provide a unique chance to get into some serious off-roading.

BFGoodrich® tires gripping the Atlas rocks

BFGoodrich®, via its Good Project, is proud to contribute to this exciting adventure which will definitely do a whole lot of good. “It’s a fantastic contribution. They provide me with tires, video equipment, clothing… I could never have undertaken this without the financing of BFGoodrich®. For the close to 10,000 kms return drive, Bengt will be on BFGoodrich® All Terrain T/A KO2 tires, perfect for tackling the rocky, gravelly, steep and narrow land of the Moroccan mountains while adapting to the asphalt paving on the way from Sweden to Morocco. “The tire is perfect for the combo I am expecting.”

In less than a month, a year of planning and many more of dreaming will suddenly become a reality for Bengt. When asked about the challenges, his answer is simple: “How hard can it be?” His life motto. We love this spirit - definitely #driver enough! We wish Bengt a great adventure!
